Classic, Contemporary, Elaborate, and Elegant Jewelry for Bridal Dress Saturday, Dec 20 2008

Most importantly your jewelry should match your bridal gown. Your jewelry should match the style of your dress – classic, contemporary, elaborate, chic or simple and elegant. While selecting jewelry consider the neckline of your dress. If the neckline of your bridal dress is high, you can choose a sleek chain with a special pendant or charm. If the wedding dress has no neckline and is strapless, your choice of bridal jewelry would then be a choker with matching earrings. With a low or open neckline, you could wear either a choker or a large necklace with complementary earrings. And with a wedding dress that is very ornate in the front, you could forget about the necklace part entirely and choose danglers or chandeliers for earrings.

Tanzanite Buying Tips Saturday, Nov 29 2008

One of the most important factors to be considered while buying a tanzanite is its color. Although, tanzanite is considered a three-colored gemstone, the most celebrated hue is deep blue with shades of purple, violet, red or orange. Usually tanzanite has good clarity level, so one should prefer an eye clean stone. Larger carat stone have deeper color which looks attractive.

Tanzanite is usually worn as pendant, necklace or earrings. When set in rings, the gemstone is very often bezel set to protect the gem. Tanzanite looks great with diamonds or white sapphires as the brilliance of these stones complements the deep luster of tanzanite and provides more strength to the setting.

Key Elements in Jewelry Photography Saturday, Nov 8 2008

jewelry is one of the hardest products to photograph because of the nature of it’s components. The metals, precious stones, diamonds and other elements that most fine jewelry is made up of, have reflective qualities that can easily show reflections, shadows and hard spots in photographs if the right tools are not used.

So obtaining the right tools for photographing it is essential for producing high quality jewelry photographs. In our opinion, here are the six most important elements in jewelry photography:

Continuous natural daylight lighting: To evenly reproduce the colors in jewelry

Diffused lighting: To eliminate shadows and hard spots

White Balance adjustment: To adapt your camera to the lighting environment used to photograph

Depth of Field & Focus: To get a sharp and clear image

Shutter Speed/Exposure time: To control the lightness and darkness of your image

Stable camera mounting (tripod): To ensure your camera is stable to avoid a blurred photo.

Photographing Jewelry Tips Friday, Oct 24 2008

Photographing jewelry is an important skill for jewelry artists. Although there are many challenges involved in jewelry photography, you can easily get some really professional looking photos using  good scanners or digital cameras.

To sell your jewelry online – from your website, eBay or other online auctions, or web stores – you’ll need to post good, clear pictures of your work. You’ll also need good jewelry photos for your business card and any flyers, brochures, or other marketing pieces you make. In online business pictures represent your product.

Photographing Jewelry with a Scanner

Use a scanner for photographing jewelry, it’s really a great and simple tool for quickly getting beautiful, artistic shots. You don’t need to be a camera buff to get good results with scanners. Basically two-dimensional jewelry is easy to shoot this way. You can get wonderful photos of earrings, necklaces, and other pieces that can be laid flat on the scanner glass.

For most pieces, you can easily work within the capabilities of scanners and get professional looking jewelry photos. It’s hard to shoot three-dimensional pieces.

With a scanner, you can’t easily get good pictures of things that don’t show to their best advantage when lying flat. “Standing up” shots of rings and cuff bracelets are nearly impossible to photograph with a scanner. You’ll get a much better shot of these using a digital camera.

There are some simple techniques used by the professional to obtain dramatic results with minimal effort. The following examples show the basic setup that should allow anyone to achieve results they can be proud of.

  1. The keys to good jewelry photography are sharpness, lighting, exposure, and in the case of gemstone photography, trying to create some sparkle.
  2. Good jewelry photography needs sharp, crisp focus.
  3. Another key to good jewelry photography is the lighting.
  4. Proper exposure is also key to good jewelry photography.

Gemstone Buying Guide Friday, Sep 26 2008

If you’re planning to shop for some bright gemstone jewelry you’re on the right track. The trend’s definitely towards these. I ordered online for a lovely ruby ring recently as I wanted to own one before these breathtaking beauties make a disappearing act. The gemstone buying tips were very handy and I wanted to share them with you.

The four Cs Color, Cut, Clarity and Carat are the deciding factors for colored gemstones. A bright, intense and vivid color is ideal. But if there’s a particular shade you fancy, just go ahead and get it in the shape you like the most. Just make sure the cut you choose brings out the beauty and clarity of the stone. I strongly feel inclusions add character to a gemstone. What do you think? It’s true especially in case of sapphire, ruby and emerald where it adds distinction to the stone. Besides they also affect costs wherein you can get a bigger stone for less. Or shall we say more carats at less cost.
